Have you seen the Toys"R"Us toy guide for differently-abled kids? If not, click the link and check it out. As the company website explains, "For nearly 20 years, we have published the annual Toys"R"Us Toy Guide for Differently-Abled Kids, an easy-to-use resource featuring specially selected toys that aid in the development of children with physical, cognitive or developmental disabilities."
A friend of mine often says that we are too quick to label as "conditions" what are really just different points along a wide continuum of endless human diversity. We like the term "differently-abled" because when you get right down to it, everybody is differently-abled. As such, the Toys"R"Us guide has something for everyone.
Toys"R"Us uses the term "differently-abled" to "stress that all children have unique skills and abilities." I strongly support this point of view, and I appreciate the expression as something far more than a bow to political correctness. "Differently-abled" gets us closer to an accurate description of the human condition.

I believe that society makes certain people, especially disabled children, think that they are victims when in reality they are just different. AS Toy R Us puts it with their Differently-abled kids program, all of us are different and we must find our own way to learn and grow up to be someone that can have an impact in the world, whether small or big. I think this is a great program and have never heard of it until reading in on this website. Thank you for sharing it.
