It Will Never Be Enough

America’s trillion-dollar bailout of its incompetent bankers represents 8% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product. It’s larger than the annual Defense budget. It’s larger than the annual Education budget. The mounting national debt will starve the government and prevent future administrations from creating or executing social programs like Head Start or Social Security.  The fat cats have made billions, and the government is going broke to protect them from the consequences of their irresponsibility.

A Higher Class of Sucker

A friend just got back from Las Vegas and offered this report:

“As I got off the freeway at Tropicana Blvd., I counted 22 cranes against the skyline. I thought the economy must not be so bad, but later a cab driver told me that many of those cranes are idle – the half-built towers are on hold. Later, I heard on a local news station that gaming revenues were down 20% compared to this time last year.

Wasting Away

Two years ago a friend and his sister debated her purchase of a hybrid automobile. He showed her that the premium price of the car outweighed her probable gasoline savings unless the car lasted a very long time without any maintenance. She told him, “I’m not buying it to save money. I’m buying it to use less gasoline.”
